Welcome to West End Tennis Club!

Whether you are a die-hard tennis fanatic or an absolute beginner, our club heartily invites you to join us! Built and supported by West End village residents for our community, our club boasts three, well maintained, hard tennis courts located on Benner Lane between the village pond and Tringham Hall with easy car parking. Membership is open to all West End village (Surrey) residents, and we have a small but friendly membership of around 80 families and individuals.

Individuals or families can sign up for annual membership for a small fee. Members get a key and can play all year round at no additional charge. New members are welcome to join at any time throughout the year. Membership entitles you to take part in the club AGM which is held annually (nibbles and drinks provided!) and stand for election to a Committee post. Renewals and key exchanges also happen at the AGM.

If you would like to try out the courts or don't wish to become a member it is possible to play on an hourly basis during shop opening hours only. For a small deposit just obtain a key for the public gate from the local corner shop. An hourly rate is charged and the deposit refunded upon return of the key.

Our club holds a relaxed club night on Monday evenings from the first week of April until the end of October from around 6.30pm until dark. Skill level is not important, just enthusiasm! Depending on numbers, we play doubles, singles, two against one, and everyone mixes in during the evening so there is no need to arrive with a partner. There are no referees, occasionally scores are forgotten and the odd game can consist mostly of double faults.

We organise subsidised coaching which can be signed up to at the AGM and is usually arranged for six weeks during the summer for children and adults spread over three age groups.

For a great way to enjoy a balmy summer's day, meet fellow West Enders and keep fit, join us today.

History of the Club

The West End tennis courts were first opened on 12th November 1988, but not officially opened until the 1st April 1989. The current West End Tennis Club resulted from a meeting between West End residents interested in forming a club and the Parish Council in March 1987. After consulting with all interested parties, including the Tringham Netball Club, 250 residents expressed an interest in forming a non profit making friendly club open to all West End residents. A committee was formed and together with the Parish Council, it was decided to apply to the Surrey Heath Borough Council for a grant to construct the courts on the recreation ground. After securing funding the committee began obtaining quotes for the construction of the courts which duly started in August 1988. After completion, it was agreed that two of the courts should be for the sole use of club members, with the third court available to members of the public on a pay per play basis.

The club is still run by a committee of volunteers elected each year at the club's Annual General Meeting. There is a weekly club night open to all adult members on a Monday evening between April and October. The club provides subsidised tennis coaching for all members during the summer and also pays each year for the Holy Trinity School to have tennis lessons . The aim of the club is to promote the playing of tennis for all in West End and new members are always welcome.
